Every year, the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society awards one deserving high school junior with a $500 scholarship and and the title of Nassau County Teen Poet Laureate. The poet is selected by past poets laureate of Nassau County from a county-wide pool of applicants each nominated to be the sole representative of their school. The winner is honored in May at Farmingdale Public Library. They serve as laureate in their senior year, and are tasked with the role of encouraging the spread of poetry among local teens through contests, events, and other projects. Founded by Alan Semerdjian (Nassau County Poet Laureate 2024-2026), the Nassau County Teen Poet Laureate initiative aims to celebrate the art of poetry among Nassau County youth.
